Summary: The Fleet Management Division, an ASE Blue Seal
organization, is seeking an Automotive Technician Intern that is
actively enrolled in the Work Based Learning program through
Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC). The Automotive
Technician Intern position provides hands-on training and the
opportunity to gain practical experience in the field of vehicle
maintenance and repair. This role is an excellent steppingstone for
individuals seeking to build a career in the automotive repair
industry. The intern will work under the supervision of experienced
technicians, assisting with routine maintenance, basic repairs, and
diagnostic procedures. This role emphasizes developing technical
skills, familiarity with tools and equipment, and understanding
industry practices. We operate two shifts that run five days per
week making it easy to schedule your classes around work. Major
Duties and Responsibilities : Assist experienced technicians with
routine maintenance and repairs, such as oil changes, tire
rotations, brake inspections, and basic troubleshooting. Learn to
diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues under supervision.
Utilize and learn to safely operate various tools and equipment.
Maintain a clean and organized work area. Assist with documenting
work performed in a fleet management information system. Adhere to
all safety protocols and company policies and procedures. Must be
actively enrolled in a work-based learning program sponsored by
CPCC. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities : Basic Mechanical Knowledge: A
foundational understanding of automotive systems, tools, and safety
procedures is crucial. Manual Dexterity and Physical Stamina: The
ability to handle tools, work in various positions (e.g., stooping,
crawling), and lift heavy objects is essential. Willingness to
Learn: A strong drive and a desire to learn from experienced
mechanics and develop skills are key qualities for a successful
candidate. Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Effective
communication with colleagues and supervisors is important for
teamwork and understanding instructions. Problem-Solving Skills:
The ability to diagnose issues, consider possible causes, and think
critically to find solutions. Safety Awareness: A commitment to
following safety protocols and using appropriate personal
protective equipment (PPE) is paramount. Valid driver's license and
good driving record. Minimum Qualifications : High School
Diploma/GED Current enrollment at CPCC in an automotive or diesel
technician program. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT The City’s Background
Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final

the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be
collected as part of a background check includes, but is not
limited to: reference checks, social security verification,
education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if
applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor

Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set

reports. Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening
test and physical examination. During the selection process,
candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate
