stakeholders to make informed decisions SUMMARY The Assistant
Director of External Communication in the Charlotte Communication
and Marketing (CC&M) Department reports to the Deputy Director
and is primarily responsible for overseeing the execution of the
strategic vision of the City of Charlotte’s communication to the
public. This position provides guidance and management on various
projects and is responsible for strategy for external messaging and
campaigns. Major Duties and Responsibilities Ensuring projects are
meeting budgets, timelines and brand requirements. Reviewing and
assisting in development of PR service proposals and requests.
Developing trusted relationships with citywide staff and vendors to
provide exceptional service to clients in relaying complex
messaging to the public. Collaborating with both staff and vendors
to plan the overall strategies and workflow. Providing
opportunities for mentorship, professional development and
training. Helping Communication and Marketing teams overcome
obstacles and working closely with the Deputy Director to offer
solutions. Monitoring and reporting results of team efforts and
proposing actions for the future. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Proven success with client relationships or project management.
Hands-on experience in setting strategy and reporting results with
organizational leaders. Experience managing teams, workflows and
strategy. Experience managing client support and planning.
Proficient in analyzing data to drive decisions and campaigns.
Excellent leadership and organizational skills. Preferred
Qualifications Strong background in campaign strategy, strategic
communication and public relations Project Management experience
Ability to cultivate strong client relationships Leadership
experience CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT The City’s Background Check
Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal

of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference
checks, social security verification, education verification,
criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit

dispose of information derived from such reports. Final candidates
must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical
examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked
