The control team is responsible for providing day-to-day risk support and consultation to specific business areas. Below are the six high level responsibilities of the Control Team:

  • Coordinate programs and risk assessments that contribute to comprehensive risk type coverage across Consumer Banking, including front line execution of enterprise risk programs
  • Ensure business process and activity owners implement effective and sustainable controls to manage risk and adhere to Company policies
  • Proactively engage Group leadership on risk and control issues, including new and emerging risks, issue management, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
  • Coordinate an aggregated view of risks and controls across the Group through synthesized and coordinated reporting, the development of risk models, and data integrity quality control, partnering with Data Management and Insights team The Personal Lines and Loans (PLL) business within Consumer Banking provides both secured and unsecured loans and lines of credit to address three primary borrowing needs: freedom from debt, funding for a specific purpose whether expected or unexpected, and those who expect to require funding in the future. The business markets to customers with an existing Wells Fargo relationship, and supports a portfolio of nearly 2 million customers. Accounts are originated in branches footprint-wide, via both inbound and outbound phone channels, and online at wellsfargo.com. Key functions include product development, portfolio management, pricing, marketing, credit risk, underwriting, fulfillment, servicing, and collections. The focus for this specific role from a business perspective is product development, product portfolio management, and pricing. The Role This role is organized under the Personal Lending Group Control Executive organization and will provide direct support to the Personal Lines and Loans (PLL) business within Consumer Banking. The candidate will perform process and control risk management duties in alignment with the Risk Management Framework, Compliance Program Policy, and the developing needs of the PLL business
    • Ensure escalation of risk and control issues to senior management, including Group leadership, IRM, management-level committees, and the Board in a timely manner
    • Actively participate in strategic business initiatives to confirm risk and control factors are identified and considered Responsible for implementing process and control functions that support the Personal Lines and Loans business, which include:
      • Leading New Business Initiatives Risk Management (NBIRM) for the Personal Lines and Loans (PLL) business to ensure new and modified products benefit customers, shareholders and effectively manage risk.
      • Providing frequent written and verbal communication to Personal Lending senior leaders to create awareness and understanding of the risks and controls pertaining to any new business initiatives.
      • Providing transparency into identified risks and unfavorable ratings or barriers to new initiatives. Credibly challenging information provided to ensure all risks and controls are captured and clearly understood. Speaking ------up or down------ with varying levels of detail based on the audience regarding the importance of NBIRM protocols, as Wells Fargo works to strengthen its NBIRM practices.
      • Identifying, scoping, and executing NBIRM policy requirements for new initiatives specific to PLL.
      • Assisting management in strategizing a comprehensive risk coverage plan
      • Working with peers to organize and manage Control responsibilities
      • Completing proactive risk and control assessment and readiness activities
      • Identifying, escalating, monitoring, and validating issues
      • Monitoring risk and performance measures in appropriate functional governance routines and escalating, as needed, into business unit and Consumer Banking routines
      • Ensuring business partners effectively understand and implement new regulations and policy requirements though participation in change management routines
      • Provide subject matter expertise and coordination, as needed, in internal audits and external examinations

        Required Qualifications
        • 6+ years of experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both; or 6+ years of IT systems security, business process management or financial services industry experience, of which 3+ years must include direct experience in compliance, operational risk management, or a combination of both

            Other Desired Qualifications
            • 3+ years of Consumer Banking industry experience
            • Knowledge of personal lending products and operations
            • Knowledge and understanding of Regulatory Risk programs and Compliance Management policies
            • Ability to interact with all levels of an organization
            • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and work under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment
            • Experience documenting controls within business processes
            • Experience with issue management related to control gaps/deficiencies within business processes
            • Understanding of sales and service processes; preferably for Wells Fargo Community Bank and Virtual Channels
            • Experience in Risk process mapping
            • Extensive knowledge and understanding of banking process, compliance, products, and services
            • Experience in conducting risk assessments and providing credible challenge in assessing the adequacy of policies, processes, and controls
            • Ability to identify and evaluate trends, isolate root causes, and provide swift/thorough resolution
            • Experience in monitoring and validating operational risk arising from inadequate or failed internal processes, people, systems, or external events
            • Ability to synthesize data from a variety of sources and deliver results quickly
            • Experience in developing reporting associated with risk programs

              Job Expectations
              • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
