Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: Labor and Delivery - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 11/17/2025 - Duration: 13 weeks - 36 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, days - Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery RN with strong high-volume experience and required certifications for a fast-paced hospital environment. Responsibilities - Work in a high-acuity Labor & Delivery unit within a hospital setting - Unit averages over 300 births per month, with double labor assignments common - Patient population includes obstetrical patients 16 weeks gestation and greater, as well as high-risk antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum cases - Handles scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births, rescue cervical cerclage, and high-risk maternity care - Patient ratios are 2:1, with an average of 20 births in 24 hours and 30-40 admits daily across 20 rooms - Obstetrical triage unit allows for pre-admission screening and outpatient procedures - 12-hour day shifts from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM; 36 hours per week - Minimum 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule required (every other weekend) - Floating required as needed, including to a high-risk OB unit or affiliate hospital - Unit utilizes Epic for charting, SBAR, and PYXIS medication systems - 13 to 26 week contract options available - Must be able to work effectively in a very fast-paced, challenging environment - Unit orientation consists of 24 hours - Scrubs are provided and must be blue - Candidates may be required to precept or orient new staff members - First-time travelers with strong L&D experience in high-volume units are welcome - No RTO allowed during the first week of the assignment; up to 7 days RTO may be auto-approved (excluding holidays) - Must be willing to work at least 2 out of 3 major holidays - Those with a permanent address under 50 miles will be considered local - Past employees of Novant Health or New Hanover must have a 12-month separation before applying as a traveler - Travel pairs are permitted but must be assigned to different units Requirements - Active NC or compact RN license required at start - Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience in a high-volume setting (>300 births per month) strongly preferred - Certifications required: BCLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate - Proficiency in circulating in the OR, performing sterile vaginal exams, and immediate newborn care - Epic charting experience required - Ability to manage double labor assignments regularly - References from past supervisors required prior to start Benefits - High Pay and Bonuses - Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options - 401(k) Plan - Weekly Payroll Deposit - Free Online CEUs - Generous Housing Allowance - Travel and Licensure Reimbursements - Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy - Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-626085.
