Description: This is an opportunity for an RN in the ICU. The
facility has 96 licensed beds. It operates as a teaching system but
does not have residents. While there is no trauma designation, the
facility is designated as a primary stroke center. The unit
contains 16 beds with an average daily census of 10 patients.
Patient types include ARDS, sepsis, COPD, DKA, stroke, and other
MICU type cases. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 2:1 for ICU patients
and 3:1 for IMC patients. A CNA will typically assist on the unit,
with some shifts having two CNAs. Key skills required include art
line management, vasoactive medication titration, vent management
and weaning with respiratory therapy support, and chest tube
management. Critical thinking is essential. Support roles within
the department include CNAs who assist with activities of daily
living and transport, and charge nurses. Phlebotomy services are
available. Resource nurses are also present. Respiratory therapy is
available 24/7, as are hospitalists and intensivists. Telemetry
monitoring is provided but does not include CCU rhythms. The
facility utilizes EPIC for electronic medical records, with Alaris
for IV pumps and Omnicell for medication dispensing. Unit-specific
equipment includes Bair Hugger, Verathon Bladder Scanner, and
Blanketrol machine. Floating is possible to med-surg with a 4:1
ratio or to the emergency department as a resource. Weekend
rotation is every other weekend. Travelers are expected to work 75%
of holidays. The unit culture welcomes eager new graduates, with
experienced nurses available to guide them. Scrub color required is
