Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: Labor and Delivery - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 11/24/2025 - Duration: 13 weeks - 36 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, days - Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced Labor & Delivery unit requiring expertise with high-volume birth settings and strong perinatal care skills. Responsibilities - Work in a hospital-based Labor & Delivery unit specializing in high-volume births (over 300 births per month) - Average daily census includes 20 births, 30-40 admits, 40 visits per day, and 20 patient rooms - Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 2:1, with double labor assignments common - Care for obstetrical patients from 16 weeks gestation and greater, as well as select high-risk antepartum and postpartum cases - Unit includes an obstetrical triage area and performs both scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births, along with rescue cervical cerclage - 12-hour day shifts (6:45 am – 7:15 pm), totaling 36 hours per week; every other weekend required (minimum 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule) - Contracts of 13 to 26 weeks available - Floating within the hospital and to affiliate high-risk OB units required as needed - Uses Epic EMR, Pyxis, and SBAR communication tools; Epic experience preferred - Unit orientation is 24 hours; scrubs (blue) are provided - Responsible for all aspects of intrapartum, antepartum, and postpartum care, including high-risk cases and fetal surveillance - May be required to precept and orient new staff on the unit as needed - Expect a challenging, high-acuity environment with a fast pace and frequent double labor assignments - No RTO allowed after booking; RTO must be pre-approved at booking (maximum 7 days, not on holidays) - Candidates must be able to work 2 out of 3 major holidays; no RTO allowed during first week of assignment - Candidates residing within 50 miles may be offered local rates - Travelers may not work more than 5 consecutive days or 60 hours in a week, per fatigue policy - Modules and unit-specific training must be completed prior to start Requirements - Active NC or compact RN license required at start - At least 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery RN experience in high-volume settings (preferred 3 years) - Must have direct experience on units with more than 300 births per month - Current BCLS, AWHONN Intermediate, and NRP certifications required - Competency in circulating for OR, performing sterile vaginal exams, and providing immediate newborn care - Experience with Epic EMR preferred - First-time travelers will be considered with strong prior experience in similar settings - Candidates must provide two manager or supervisor references from the past 12 months at the time of start Benefits - High Pay and Bonuses - Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options - 401(k) Plan - Weekly Payroll Deposit - Free Online CEUs - Generous Housing Allowance - Travel and Licensure Reimbursements - Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy - Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-629975.
