11B - Orthopaedic Trauma provides patient care to adolescent, adult
and geriatric patients on a 24-hour basis. It is a 19-bed unit with
all private rooms. The most common diagnoses stem from orthopaedic
trauma injuries, and other traumatic injuries requiring surgical
intervention. 11B also supports medical overflow when needed and
based on capacity, providing care for patients requiring medical
interventions, CPOX monitoring and telemetry monitoring. 11B is
aligned with the Atrium Health Plan for Nursing and utilizes the
Atrium Health Professional Practice Model for the delivery of
patient care, the AACN synergy model for care coordination, and
Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring as a theoretical framework for
nursing practice.
Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) is the flagship
hospital of Atrium Health, which is distinguished throughout the
Southeastern United States for its excellent patient care and
medical expertise. CMC serves as the region's only Level 1 trauma
center and is an approved transplant center for heart, kidney,
pancreas and liver. We also serve as one of North Carolina's 5
Academic Medical Center Teaching Hospitals, providing residency
training for more than 200 physicians in 15 specialties and serve
as a regional campus for Wake Forest University School of Medicine,
based in Winston-Salem, NC.
Job SummaryResponsible for the direct provision of patient care and
for assisting the manager with daily operations to include but not
limited to coordination of patient care/outcomes, allocation of
human and fiscal resources, communications, patient throughput,
program development and oversight, patient, physician and employee
rounding, selection, development, and retention of staff, clinical
supervision and performance appraisal, performance improvement
activities, service recovery and compliance with regulatory agency
requirements. Maintains clinical and professional competency as
appropriate to the population of patients served.
Essential Functions
Physical Requirements
Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching,
stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and
support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical
equipment, and supplies. Must speak and understand English
fluently. Intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, and touch. Finger
dexterity. Critical thinking and ability to concentrate.
Education, Experience and CertificationsGraduate from an accredited
School of Nursing. Current RN licensure in appropriate state.
Minimum two years nursing experience preferred. Previous management
experience preferred. BSN required. RN candidates for external hire
or internal promotion without BSN must be enrolled in a BSN program
within 1 year of Hire/Transfer date and must complete program
within 3 years of enrollment in the program. BLS required per
policy guidelines. Appropriate professional certification (either
clinical or leadership) is required within 1 year of eligibility
for professional certification exam. Additional education,
training, certifications, or experience may be required within the
department by the nurse leader.
