Job Description:

Shifts: 6p - 6:30a

Scan a wide variety of exams. Primary patient population is adult Inpatients and ED patients.
Able to maintain a safe MRI environment with focus on safety and patient care.
Occasional stroke protocol for both IP and ED patients.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Possesses overall knowledge of MR physics, including how the selection of parameters and options affects image quality.
Demonstrates competence in the acquisition and processing of MRI data, including the development and implementation of new procedures.
Ensures a working knowledge of affiliated computers, injector systems, patient care monitors, and other related equipment.
Maintains venipuncture technique and patient care skills appropriate for administration of MRI contrast materials.
Is knowledgeable in their clinical applications as well as precautions specific to MRI contrast agents.
Is authorized to obtain medication, radiopharmaceuticals, or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner, authorized/certified technologist, or registered nurse.
Medications to include radioisotopes and contrast materials cannot be administered without appropriate clinical credentials, training, and certification to do so.
Employees designated to "obtain" these items may also participate in the ordering and distribution of inventory.
Maintains the technical versatility to adapt to changes in technique or technical protocols, and provides informative input for supervisors or physicians.
Independently adjusts acquisition parameters for the patient or study that does not fit the "routine" criteria. Is competent and reliable in independent working conditions ( i.e., call, weekends.)
Ensures a consistent self-study program that maintains knowledge of state-of-the-art technology and meets ARRT or NCSRT CME requirements.
Is compliant with all CHS or department sponsored mandatory continuing education programs.
Demonstrates the communication skills required for professional explanation of procedures and interaction with physicians and department personnel.
Accurately obtains patient information to ensure safety and diagnostic quality.
This includes reviewing pertinent prior imaging and medical history reports to help determine safety concerns as well as to ensure appropriate imaging protocol.
Acts and communicates in a professional manner, appropriate for the health care setting. Adheres to departmental dress code and the Mission Statement of CHS.
Complies to assigned work hours and assignments. Efficiently completes assigned tasks in an appropriate period of time.
Employs good teamwork skills to ensure efficiency, productivity and morale within the department.
Assists as needed or requested throughout radiological services.
Works closely with the area supervisor in providing procedural updates or recommendations. Requests supervisory advice as needed and obtains appropriate approval for projects, equipment changes, or modifications in procedures.

Skills:
Essential Functions Cont'd: Understands and can communicate the unique safety concerns with the MRI environment and of MRI procedures including restrictions due to the strong magnetic field and/or the effects of heating due to the use of radio waves used to acquire MRI images.
Completes all the necessary screening of patients, staff and family members who enter the MRI suite.
Works within the parameters and guidelines of regulatory agencies.
Responds to emergencies in the MRI suite with the knowledge of specific safety concerns that must be adhered to by all personnel, and includes an understanding of the limitations regarding emergency equipment that can be brought into the MR environment.
Maintains safe work habits and routines in an environment that can create significant exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious disease.
Ensures a clean, organized, and well-stocked work environment.
Supports and contributes to the Patient-Centered Care Philosophy by understanding that every staff member is a Caregiver, whose role is to meet the needs of each patient.
Marginal Functions: Provides feedback for quality assurance, protocols and methods for obtaining Q.C.
Assists in maintaining supply inventory
Assists in instructional programs for students, tour groups, etc.
Performs daily Q.C. procedures on film processors or department patient monitoring equipment.
Performs clerical functions as needed to ensure the timeliness of reports and availability of correlative films.
Physical Requirements: An MRl Technologist will frequently be required to stretch, bend, twist, squat, and kneel in performing diagnostic procedures.
Lifting, pushing, pulling and gripping may be required for positioning patients and maneuvering equipment.
Vision and bearing for distances of at least 20 feet is necessary. Significant walking will be required, as approximately 60% of work time will be while standing. 40% will be spent operating computers and equipment requiring significant manual dexterity and use of the hands.
Communication skills, both oral and written, are essential components to job performance.
OSHA Category: All procedures or other job-related tasks involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, tissues, or other potential spills or splashes.
Use of appropriate protective measures are required for every employee engaged in a Category 1 work task.

Experience:
Minimum two years recent experience.
MRI experience preferred.
Formal MRI training is a significant benefit.

Education:
High School graduate or equivalent and completion of a formal, AMA approved.
Radiologic Technology or Nuclear Medicine program required.

Certifications & Licenses:
BLS.
Registry with either the NMTCB, ARRT (N), or ARRT (R) required.
Advanced Registry in MRl beneficial.
