We believe that by creating an inclusive workplace, we're better able to attract and retain our talent, provide valuable solutions that meet the needs of our advisors and their clients, and deliver on our mission of helping more people achieve financial security.How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:The Data Governance Product Owner, in alignment with business objectives, will support the Head of Data Strategy & Governance with driving the development of Brighthouse Financial' s enterprise-wide data governance, policies, standards, strategy, and execution. The role will lead and manage all enterprise-wide data governance activities and will have responsibility for ensuring the quality and managing the protection of sensitive data and information assets. This role will focus on the establishment of and adherence to an enterprise data governance framework for data policies, standards and practices, at the departmental, business and functional levels, to achieve the required level of quality, consistency and protection to meet the overall Brighthouse Financial business needs. This role will oversee data definition and reporting requirements for critical business line data, delivery of quality data that meets the requestor's needs, and timely remediation of data gaps while ensuring that published information and data is congruent with the corporate goals.The Data Governance Product Owner serves as a point of escalation for governance, data quality and protection issues and will work closely with business and functional area leadership to improve the quality and value of core data assets, respond to regulatory protection requirements as well as support the strategic requirements of the department.Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and govern an enterprise data governance implementation roadmap
  • Roll out an enterprise-wide data governance framework, with a focus on continuous improvement of quality and protection of sensitive data through modifications to organization behavior policies and standards, principles, governance metrics, processes, related tools, and data architecture
  • Define roles and responsibilities related to data governance and ensure clear accountability for stewardship of the company's principal information assets
  • Serve as a liaison between Business and Functional areas and technology to ensure that data related business requirements for protecting sensitive data are clearly defined, communicated, and well understood and considered as part of operational prioritization and planning
  • Responsible for effective collaboration and communications between IT data capabilities and all data communities, organizing and streamlining the process with which data is collected, extracted, standardized, utilized, protected, exchanged, stored, and remediated.
  • Develop & maintain inventory of the enterprise information maps, including authoritative systems and owners
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of data quality standards, data protection standards and adoption requirements across the enterprise partnering with technology and operations
  • Partner with business, operations, and technology to build out data dictionaries and business glossaries
  • Define indicators of performance and quality metrics and ensure compliance with data related policies, standards, roles and responsibilities, and adoption requirements
  • In conjunction with the IT, provide progress reports to the Executive Sponsor Group and oversee periodic updates to the data governance roadmap
  • Lead Senior Management, comprising resources from the Business and Functional areas and IT business and operations functions, to achieve their objectives; resolve issues escalated from Business and Functional areas data governance representatives
  • Coordinate external data sources to eliminate redundancy and streamline the expense related to those services
  • Define and implement a self-serve repository of information assets that can easily be searched by Business and IT, and is continuously updated with data and metadata controls, informed by data governance, classification, quality rules & audit information.
  • Oversee senior business information analysts to assess the end-to-end data impact of insight creation and continuously monitor the quality of data obtained and provided to the broader organization.
  • Accountable for the review and tracking of data maturity across the enterprise, providing expert support and council for the implementation of the data policies and standards.Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
    • Self-starter, ability to bridge organizational gaps, move projects at a steady pace, and deliver results
    • Must have excellent written, verbal, and public presentation communication skills
    • Analytic and strategic thinker capable of translating senior-level direction and corporate risk management policies and procedures into structured, practical, efficient, and effective business processes.
    • Ability to manage senior relationships across all the Business and Functional areas
    • Collaborative team player orientation towards work relationships, strong culture awareness
    • Ability to develop people, skills in coaching, mentoring, and teaching on the job
    • Demonstrated experience building successful relationships, and collaboration, with a wide variety of internal stakeholders at all levels
    • Willingness to accept change and provide direction
    • Work in a fast-paced environment, while managing multiple projects and personnel simultaneously
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a major services organization, with large-scale data or project management and oversight experience.
    • Knowledge of industry leading data quality and data protection management practices
    • Knowledge of data governance practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets and approaches related to data protection
    • Knowledge of data related government regulatory requirements and emerging trends and issues
    • Knowledge of risk data architecture and technology solutions
    • Working knowledge of data management concepts including modeling, quality, control frameworks, governance, master data management, metadata management, etc.
    • Experience with data governance, data quality, and data catalog tools. Informatica suite of tools is a plus.
    • Significant experience of the insurance industry or a similarly heavily regulated industry.
