Position Overview The Senior Project Manager delivers manufacturing projects on time and on budget by marshalling necessary resources, driving timelines, and communicating status to key stakeholders. Manages multiple projects simultaneously through detailed project planning activities. This role reports to the Director of Engineering and works closely with operations, procurement, engineering, and corporate leadership. Position Responsibilities & Duties Leadership - Leads projects and working teams to effectively initiate, plan, execute, monitor, and close project, on time and on budget - Lead implementation of projects through technical expertise and influencing capability. - Conduct team meetings as required to communicate and coordinate project expectations and milestones and resolve any expectation and milestone roadblocks. - Execute and reinforce improvements with strong change management skills. Safety - Ensure compliance of safety rules and regulations by all project personnel (including, but not limited to Local Codes, OSHA, and NFPA site specific safety requirements). - Support the achievement of World Class Safety on all projects and assignments. - Lead or conduct risk assessments of equipment to help drive safety improvements using best engineering practices. - Actively participate in all Plant safety initiatives. Quality - Organize a startup team and manage the training of plant operating personnel for any new responsibilities related to the project. - Coordinate with Quality group to understand needs to make a product that meets customer commitments and expectations. - Lead qualification process for machines/process. Project Management - Develop the project scope of work in conjunction with the Corporate, Engineering, and Plant Leadership. - Provide project cost estimate and schedule Identify process opportunities and drive capital and plant investment to repair. - Work with Plant Manager and Corporate Engineering to develop project budgets. Construct payback models for capital projects and verify achievement of financial benefits after completion of project. - Review outsourced and internal mechanical/structural design for compliance with project scope, applicable codes and Plant Operations requirements. Coordinate approval for design concept with PlantOperations and engineering. - Prepare process and mechanical specifications for bidding process equipment and a construction bid package. - Evaluate and recommend external equipment suppliers. Coordinate the bid process and equipment acquisition with internal Procurement Department. - Leads projects and working teams to effectively initiate, plan, execute, monitor, and close project, on time and on budget - Clears roadblocks and problems within assigned projects - Acts as a change agent to drive teams toward success - Guides team members to perform through issues and constraints - Owns the timeline, budget, resource constraints, and deliverables / result - Shifts between the 'big picture' and the small-but-crucial details - Prepared to roll up their sleeves and work through detailed issues - Creates and ensures all appropriate tools are completed and used effectively (e.g., charter, Gantt chart, status updates) - Actively communicates with project sponsors and key stakeholders - Establishes regular points of communication; manages sponsor and stakeholders' expectations - Performs root cause analysis on project shortfalls and takes corrective action as necessary - Applies project management tools and techniques, as well as other continuous improvement principles and tools, toward a variety of projects - Coaches other employees on the use of various tools, concepts and practices foundational to Project Management - Negotiate contracts in conjunction with Procurement. - Negotiate and approve/reject contractor claims. - Verify/approve contractor invoices. - Coordinate contractor activity with Plant Operations and monitor contractor performance. - Oversee performance testing to ensure compliance with contract documents. Drive deficiency elimination process. - Manage and archive drawings and documents during the project. - Collaborate with Quality and Operations to manage process changes in a controlled manner Continuous Improvement - Attend and participate in day to day plant operations meetings, lead Kaizen events, perform Gemba walks, etc. - Identify process issues and resolve them quickly using DOE (design of experiments) or other like tools to drive improvements. - Use lean concepts to lead Kaizen events focused on cost reduction and process optimization. - Other duties as assigned Qualifications - Bachelor of Science in Engineering. Prefer Chemical, Polymer, or Mechanical Engineering - 10 or more years' experience in project management engineering. 7 or more years' experience in polymers preferred. - Demonstrated experience with managing mid-large projects ($25-50MM projects) and managing multiple projects at a time. - Hands on, tenacious, determined personality. - Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. - Must be fit for factory work (Able to climb ladders, lift 50 lbs, stand on feet all day, and communicate well in a noisy environment.) - Proficient in CAD (AutoCAD and Solid Works), MS Office, MS Access, MS Project and Project Tools. - Effective written and verbal communication skills across multiple formats: formal presentations, meetings, conference calls, e-mails, and memos. - Demonstrated ability to develop strong relationships with others; able to lead without direct influence - Demonstrated experience leading change - Demonstrated ability to influence business leaders - Demonstrated data analysis skills EEOC Statement We offer equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
