Principal Security Engineer II for the SDIT Quality Assurance group will develop technical solutions and provide strategic consultation to solve complex IT Security challenges. Provide SDIT Quality Assurance oversight to develop, design and manage ongoing initiatives to reduce the risk of rapidly changing cyber threats to the business leveraging a deep understanding of the Cyber and Security threats faced by the organization. This position will work closely with the network operations, security/cybersecurity, PCI audit, vulnerabilities and quality assurance technical staff on the operation and implementation of existing and new security technologies and tools to improve security operations and service delivery. They will continue to evaluate security operational strategies and develop requirements for new operational counter-measures and their deployment. They will serve as the information security expert for SDIT Charter. They will lead the overall service delivery/security tool implementation process for the quality assurance team and communicate event status to executive leadership. This position will serve as a subject matter expert.

Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.

Design and implement processes and controls that acquire and correlate security relevant system and application log data to alert and report on potential security events.

Lead the execution of security counter-measures.

Develop security standards for Charter and industry related standards bodies and organizations.

Design and implement an effective vulnerability management infrastructure and processes to ensure that Charter's network is securely configured and appropriately protected.

Develop and implement system logic to detect security threats.

Coordinates Charter's incident response process for cyber incidents.

Reviews work plans and designs and advises on improvements based on security requirements.

Ensures compliance with security standards, policies and procedures.

Adhere to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.

Mentors and guides the work of senior technical security staff.

Required Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience
Advanced expert knowledge of network and system security vulnerabilities and exploits
Understanding of what is required to prevent security exploits, how to detect security attacks and anomalies, reverse engineering and how to respond to security incidents and intrusions.
Advanced expert knowledge of related industry specifications and standards NIST, CSRIC, Firewalls, Intrusion Detection and Prevention, DNS, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocols
Advanced expert knowledge in network security design, network security architecture, and TCP/IP protocols
Advanced expert knowledge of forensic methodologies and best practices to investigate intrusions, preserve evidence and coordinate a unified security response
Demonstrated leadership capabilities with the ability to work across functional boundaries, build consensus and drive results
Effective written and verbal communication skills and should have good presentation skills
Ability to solve problems, balance competing priorities and manage through complexity and rapid change

Required Education
Masters or Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or related field or related work experience
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
Industry and vendor specific certifications and training (UNIX, Cisco, Juniper)

Required Related Work Experience and Number of Years
10-15 years of IT/network experience
10-15 years of Information security experience
7-10 years of Information security operations experience
Demonstrated experience in managing information security events and incidents for large and sophisticated networks

Preferred Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
Firewall, Intrusion Detection Systems, and router engineering
Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) and log management tools
Computer forensics tools, such as Encase or FTK

Preferred Education
Masters or Bachelor's Degree in Cybersecurity
Certified Ethical Hacking (CEH)
SANS Global Information Assurance Certification, such as GCIH, GCIA, GPEN, GCED
Certified Forensics Examiner (CFE)

Preferred Related Work Experience and Number of Years
Previous experience in a Security Operations team
Incident Response management

Office Environment
Minimal Travel Required
