Job Description

We are looking for a Vulnerability Management Engineer with a passion for cyber security to work alongside a talented team to build and operate an entire cyber security program from the ground-up. As Vulnerability Management Engineer, you will report directly to the Manager, Vulnerability Management. You will have the opportunity to run an entire vulnerability management program, not just adopt an existing one. You will be responsible for the identification, prioritization, tracking, and remediation of vulnerabilities for all assets (endpoints, network elements, routers, firewalls). In this role, you will lead the team and be involved in the team's day-to-day operations. You will be a technical resource for the team members. The team will work across the entire enterprise on resolving vulnerabilities in a timely manner using a risk-based approach. As a result, you will have the ability to foster inter-organizational relationships and manage project activities and timelines. The scope includes all assets and is not limited to IT however the partnership with IT is critical.

You will be required to have a strong background and understanding of all cyber security domains and work in both the Detect and Respond areas of the NIST CSF Framework. You will make strong cyber security decisions while using a business risk analysis approach. Brightspeed is a cloud-first (Azure, GCP, and SAAS) company with a significant data center presence. This model requires you to consider security across a diverse portfolio of assets and networks. Brightspeed is also in a Zero Trust journey, which means you should execute on a multi-year program while continuing to drive vulnerability management and constantly moving the maturity curve.

The Vulnerability Management Team is a highly technical team that is responsible to come up with complex solutions to remediate or mitigate vulnerabilities. As a result, you will be both a people leader and a technical SME across on-premises and cloud-hosted environments. The team is also directly responsible for managing the vulnerability scanning tools and working with our 3rd party vendors on deploying and updating. The team manages all scan activities including the exclusion process and asset discovery scans.

As Vulnerability Management Engineer, your job duties will include:

  • Manage the deployment of vulnerability scanning tools and systems
  • Design, implement and lead the cyber security vulnerability management program for the enterprise
  • Primary contact for the prioritization of remediation
  • Provide vulnerability mitigation/remediation expertise and consulting
  • Assess vulnerability exceptions and provide recommendations
  • Manage implementations, upgrades, configurations, changes, and tier 3 support for all vulnerability scanning platforms.
  • Monitor and manage the remediation of endpoint compliance issues against baseline security configurations and provides remediation guidance
  • Provide management reporting concerning residual risk, vulnerabilities, and other security exposures, including noncompliance
  • Assess new threats and security alerts; recommends remedial actions
  • Participates in organizational projects, as required
  • Identify and recommend complex and innovative solutions addressing vulnerabilities including mitigation strategies for a wide range of on-premises and cloud-hosted device/compute assets
  • Determine an appropriate vulnerability management strategy for related information security policy, standards, and procedures
  • Lead all zero-day remediation efforts using existing tools and prioritizations


    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Cyber Security, or a directly related field or previous related work experience and cyber security certifications (CISSP, CISM, Security+, CEH, Azure Security Engineer, etc.)
    • 3+ years working in the Cyber Security field
    • 3+ years of Tenable/Qualys/Rapid7 experience
    • Experience in Risk-Based prioritization
    • Experience in multiple domains of cyber security
    • Experience in vulnerability management approaches and technologies
    • Experience with security in GCP and Azure is a plus
    • Experience working across cross-functional teams
    • Must have a technical cyber security background
    • Experience in multiple types of operating systems (Windows, Unix, Linux) and networks
    • Working knowledge of Zero Trust architectures is a plus
    • Working knowledge of standard computer software, including MS Office and Teams
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing time-sensitive priorities
    • Strong attention to detail to ensure that policies and standard procedures are followed
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

      • Cyber Security Certification (CISSP, CISM, Security+, CEH, Azure Security Engineer)
