Job Description:
Full-time Description Job Summary: The Interior Designer will
create functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing spaces. They
will assess programming requirements, select interior finishes,
determine optimal furniture placement, and choose decorative items,
all while adhering to relevant drawing standards, building codes,
and inspection requirements. Supervisory Responsibilities: May
coach or direct the work of Interior Designer 1, 2’s and Interior
Design Interns. Duties/Responsibilities: Works on larger and more
complex projects independently. Work independently to make design
decisions and coordinate directly with the Project Manager and
client. Apply prior experience to decision-making on new projects.
Understand project timelines and help establish and meet key
milestones. Work with clients to determine initial goals and
requirements for the space, including budget, architectural
preferences, programming, and function. Advise clients on space
planning, layout, furnishings, equipment utilization, and color
coordination. Use design applications or other visual aids to
demonstrate preliminary designs to clients. Ensure client
satisfaction by visiting projects upon completion; resolve concerns
or elevate them to senior staff as needed. Build and maintain
trusted partner and client relationships to support successful
projects and firm growth. Create interior drawing sets in Revit
that accurately describe design intent, materials, and technical
components, including revisions during bidding and construction.
Prepare accurate finish specifications and documentation for
finishes, furniture, and lighting. Oversee installation of
materials, furniture, and other design elements in coordination
with the GC and furniture vendors. Review construction photos and
reports; advise on issues as needed. Review and approve shop
drawings. Communicate and coordinate with product and material
representatives. Coordinate and collaborate with contractors,
architects, engineers, property managers, and trade professionals
to ensure project success and alignment of design intent.
Self-check work for accuracy, completeness, and legibility, and
coordinate quality control reviews by senior designers prior to
issuance. Maintain current knowledge of trends, materials,
techniques, and developments in interior design. May mentor and
delegate work to Interior Designers 1 and 2 and Interior Design
Interns. Act as a resource for design knowledge and detailing for
team members. Support the growth and development of the Interiors
team and its resources within the Charlotte office. Assist Interior
Design leadership with writing fee proposals, including site visits
and outlining project scope. Support business development
activities through attending events and creating materials such as
finish boards or PowerPoint/InDesign presentations. Company-paid
travel 1–2 times per year to the Minnesota office to collaborate
with the Bloomington Interior Design team. Perform other related
duties as assigned. Requirements Required Skills/Abilities:
Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving, organizational
skills, and motivation to learn. Ability to apply a sense of style
to create aesthetically pleasing interiors. Can self-direct work
and prioritize project tasks. Strong visual design skills including
proportion and aesthetics. Excellent verbal and written
communication skills, including presentation skills. Strong
client-facing skills - including concept presentations, ongoing
dialogue, and talking through issues or problems that arise on the
project. Professional and polished demeanor. Ability to use Adobe
Creative Suite programs. 3D modeling and CD drawing production
skills in Revit in a studio environment. Proficient in Microsoft
Office Suite or related software. Basic understanding of building
codes and inspection regulations related to interiors. Some local
and out of state travel may be required. Education and Experience:
At least 5-7 years in a commercial/architectural firm or related
experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from
CIDA accredited program required. NCIDQ Certification highly
preferred or must have interest in pursuing certification. Physical
Requirements: Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and
working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at
times. Must be able to distinguish between colors.
