Job Summary The controller coordinates the firm's month-end close, i.e. the accounting work performed at the end of each month to close out the current accounting period. They are also in charge of internal financial reporting and supervise the work of the company's billing, collections including lien releases, accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll functions. Further, the controller is responsible for producing accurate job-cost accounting reports, participating in audits and preparing reports for regulators and the outside accountants. The controller is also responsible for maintaining accounting controls and preparation of budgets, financial and cash forecasts and maintaining budgetary control to enhance the accuracy of financial reports. The controller will also ensures that such reports always comply with generally accepted accounting principles. Other secondary but still important duties include making recommendations for improvements in operations, monitoring and analyzing monthly operating results and controlling capital expenditures. Qualifications The controller should have a Bachelor's degree in accounting (strongly preferred) or equivalent business experience and 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in the construction industry. Preference will be given to candidates with the Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations. Working Conditions Primarily in an office environment, but will be expected to travel as needed to other company locations. Periodic weekend or evening work is expected. Soft Skills Familiarity with construction company financial accounting software is a must with a strong preference for Sage 300 experience. Oversee Event planning activities for all organizations Books travel arrangements (Flights/Ground/Hotels/Meals) Attends ongoing meetings and is responsible for: developing agendas with attachments, recording and time stamps, manage meeting agendas in person to ensure team stays on track and processes meeting action items to send to team Copying/shredding/filing as needed Requires work outside of normal office hours; nights and weekends (Texts/Emails/Calendar Changes/ECT.) Other duties as assigned Education and Skills: High School Diploma or GED: Equivalent experience accepted Must be able to type 60+ words/minute Must be tech literate, comfortable setting up virtual meeting, managing google calendar, ect.
